Mahalo to David Rothenberg

I hope many of you will join us for an enriching and enlivening evening at The Studio Maui on March 19. I was fortunate to spend some time with David Rothenberg this last whale season. He is a very interesting guy, a talented musician, and he has learned a lot about whales in his travels to far corners of the planet. He has a lot to share with us. The ocean world is mysterious, and I experienced some of that mystery while on a boat off of Ka'aholawe with David. David was playing his clarinet and I was recording whale songs below deck. I turned to David to see the clarinet-like sounds that had been produced by him, were now being produced by the whales in our neighborhood. It's hard to explain these things.

I am also grateful to the members of my band, Keaolani, who have enthusiastically agreed to welcome David and open the concert with some Hawaiian Mele and Hula by Pualani. Many of you at the Studio know Pualani as Tricia. She is an excellent Hula dancer - a student of Kumu Hula Leilehua Lee Bailey.

Amara Pagano, our very popular and beloved Five Rythms teacher, will close the evening with a dance session with live whale songs accompanied by David and other live musicians (expect special guests). Mahalo, Amara!!!

This will be a special evening. All proceeds above the cost of the venue will benefit The Whalesong Project in our movement to inspire care for the Oceans of Hawai'i and the World.

Mahalo to all of you who are making this possible.
